Clearly some people are still feeling raw after the recent nuclear disaster at the Fukushima plant in Japan.
Reuters is reporting that about 5,000 protesters showed up at a nuclear power plant in Fessenheim, Alsace, to demand a shutdown and energy reform.
“The demonstrators fear the site is vulnerable to earthquakes and flooding, whilst EDF and the French nuclear safety authority say this has been taken into account in the plant’s design and that risks are regularly reassessed.”
France is still heavily dependent on its 58 nuclear power plants, but Germany has abandoned nuclear energy. Most of the protesters were German.
